Rory Kinnear Calls For Safer Film Sets

When Rory Kinnear was just 10 years old, he lost his father Roy Kinnear, who passed away during The Return of the Musketeers filming after being flung from a horse.

In general, it is estimated that between 20 and 40 people are severely injured or even killed each year during the production of a film.

As an organisation that measures the safety on set apart from other crucial factors, we propose strategies of upholding safety on set, which are implementable and realistic.

Strategies to Enhance Safety On Set

Training and Safety Briefings

  • Before every shot, in-depth safety briefings must be provided to discuss potential risks and safety procedures.

Qualified staff

  • Having a qualified medical professional on set, especially for more complex or risky shoots and that key staff are conversant with safety standards and practices.

Risk assessments

  • Each place and scene inspected thoroughly before shooting, with the backup plans created for various eventualities which team are informed about.

Safety Officers

  • Assigned safety officer who oversees and enforces defined safety regulations.

Emergency Protocols

  • Clearly defined emergency protocols and strategies for evacuation.

  • Holding frequent drills to make sure the staff and cast understand the emergency procedures.

Appropriate Equipment Maintenance:

  • All equipment must satisfy safety requirements in routine inspection and maintenance.

  • Appropriate crew members given the training they need to operate and maintain the equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  • The proper PPE has worn at all times, such as gloves, helmets, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

  • There has to be a sufficient supply of PPE on hand.
